Bait and Switch

Written By: Anthony Bafaro

I was jacked up.  Finally, after years of staring at those bland blue and burnt baby-shit gold rags, the Rams were getting new uniforms.  Was it back to the canary? Even better, the old blue and white?  Was it something new, a complete contrast from those poor threads that provided the bumbling backdrop to the highlight films of so many opposing players?  No.

Seriously guys, that's a dick move.

Dundbar Support
On Monday the Rams signed LB Jo-Lonn Dunbar.  Dunbar has been under Gregg Williams' tutelage since he came into the league in 2008.  He can play all three LB positions, but is best suited as a strong side OLB.

We essentially swapped Chris Chamberlain for Dunbar--fair enough.  On a good team he's a solid backup LB and special teams guru, but with names like Josh Hull and Justin Cole still plaguing the top spots on our depth chart, he's the de-facto starter on the strong side pending the draft results.  We still need a guy on the weak side.  I hear Chuck Manson is up for parole.  He's a little past his prime, but he's a proven head-hunter with natural leadership ability and a killer instinct; I'd at least bring him in for a workout.

High Hopes
Former Bengals WR Jerome Simpson worked out for the Rams on Wednesday.  Simpson definitely has up-side.  The 2008 2nd round pick is a downfield receiver that plays outside--two roles the Rams don't have filled.  He would immediately be the most athletic receiver on the team--(you may remember his front-flip touchdown against Arizona in week 16).  Unfortunately, he's facing a fifteen-day jail sentence and a complementary suspension for having a few pounds of cannabis shipped to his house.  On a completely unrelated note, he also seems to have some concentration issues.  In 2011 he was 5th among all WR in penalties taken and 7th in dropped passes--more than Brandon Gibson.

I don't care if this guy showed up to the workout stoned, sign him.  Write yourself a nice little out-clause for protection against the unknown suspension, and bring him into camp--we need play-makers.  Jerome has some baggage, but he's only 26 years-old, and has more talent than any receiver on the roster.

Whatever it Takes
In a bit of irrelevant talk-show news, an audio clip of Gregg Williams' pre-game speech prior to his 2011 playoff battle with the 49ers has made its way to the intra-webs.  I'm pretty sure he's still out for the year, and that's all of the concern I have for the matter, but the clip is hilarious.  I can't wait for Hollywood to get on this, and I pray to god the director has the sense to cast Sam Jackson as Williams, or at least let him do the voice-over.  Enjoy:
